Butler Gulch and Waterton Canyon

A Good WeekendGunnar had a great time playing in the wildflowers

This is a good gully to ski but a better view

A Bee doing his thing
State Flower

Washed out

If I was her earlier I would have been skiing the snow fields

This cracks me up every time I see it

You Wait, You Wait

I went down to denver for a couple of evenings this past weekend. I met up with Andy in Lakewood and we went down to Waterton Canyon with the Paddle Cat and a Ducky to run it. I R-1 the paddle cat and Andy duckied down to the bigger rapids. The last hit of the run is awesome. We never did swim well in the paddle cat. Andy had a little swim when he got caught by a side current. I laughed later when his wife asked if he swam after having a big swim on Clear Creek.
Then after a nap and some Thia food I went to Jason's for his house warming. It was a true NDS party but good to see some of the city boys. Jason's new place is pretty awesome.
The next mourning I had breakfast with my Aunt and headed for the hills. I had thought about going up to Butler Gulch ealier that weekend and on the way up I was cotemplating the whole way. I saw some snow fields while getting closer and that made the decision easier. I got to the trail head with less than a Nalgene of water and some dog treats which was plenty of gear. I havn't hiked much this year but I have really enoyed the hikes that I have done. Haveing a puppy with you makes it that much more enjoyable. There is no need for a ton of gear as well so it's kind of liberating. No pump, patch kits, no becons, no skis, no paddles, no dry bags, maybe an occasional backpack with stuff but thats all. With the lack of stuff there also comes a lack of adrenalin but I am getting more ok with that as I age. This is old man river much wiser and less injured. I'm out.....
